BNL, a global leader in plastic bearing design and manufacture, has successfully delivered a fully bespoke, engineered solution for a Shower Door Roller system, demonstrating its ability to use deep expertise in the polymer bearing area across multiple applications and sectors that both optimise performance while maximising end to end stakeholder value.

Working in partnership with their client, BNL designed a tailored bearing solution that not only met strict dimensional and performance requirements but also delivered significant , high value benefits to the manufacturer, installer and end users of the product. The solution was engineered for large-scale production, supporting annual volumes exceeding one million units across global markets.

Along with the Brand Image of this high value ; high quality shower door unit ; key goals were durability, ease and smoothness in use coupled with delivering the highly stringent , industry standard safety requirements associated with installations of this type. The BNL bearing system was engineered to meet a 68 kg static load requirement that simulates real-world safety scenarios. To prove this ; BNL’s bearing was subjected to both system-level and component-level load testing, replicating the forces experienced by both the weights of the glass panels themselves, plus the forces exerted in application by the user. The results exceeded expectations ; demonstrating that the BNL solution not only met the 68 kg requirement but far exceeded it. In fact ; the bearing design excelled ; showing that through deep knowledge in design ; the system could not only withstand rigorous operational conditions, including repeated door cycles and high static loads, without compromising functionality or structural integrity ; it looked good too ; a key criteria when you’re a homeowner or business owner looking to create great aesthetics.

A key focus of the project was also to simplify installation for end users. The redesigned bearing reduced the number of assembly steps, making it particularly suitable for products sold as kits to contractors and homeowners.

This project highlights BNL’s ability to collaborate closely with manufacturers, whatever the sector, to develop integrated, value-added solutions that enhance product design and functionality, streamline assembly, and improve overall efficiency taking cost out of manufacturing through eliminated warranty claims ; increased speed and ease of installation for contractors ; and happy users.

Joe Sylvia, Vice President of Sales at BNL—USA, commented:
“Manufacturers today are looking for more than just components; they need partners who can deliver engineered solutions that integrate seamlessly into their products. This project is a great example of how BNL works with our customers to develop bespoke bearing solutions that can increase value by eliminating end to end costs, simplify assembly, and enhance overall product performance.”
