We are committed to safeguarding the environment through adherence to BSI 14001 standards and ensuring we meet our environmental responsibilities. Our HQ & UK factory is based in a beautiful part of North Yorkshire, on the banks of the river Nidd, so we have always been vigilant in our environmental policies and procedures.

We comply with rigorous BSI environmental standards, practising effective housekeeping, having accessible cleaning equipment and securely containing materials and recyclables.

Supporting all our customers in achieving industry requirements for sustainability, through providing custom-designed solutions, is a central part of BNL’s strategy.

Designing for Sustainability

We design and manufacture integrated plastic ball bearings using materials that provide innovative, high performance products. Our bearings are lightweight, compact and designed to add value for our customers, including contributing to fuel efficiency and the push to reduce carbon emissions.

Energy use

Our smaller, lighter bearing assemblies can also have as little as a third of the torque to rotate of a metal bearing, meaning that less powerful motors are needed to drive them and less power consumed on start-up and in operation.

Lightweight

Our plastic bearings are much lighter than equivalent metal bearings. BNL supply plastic bearings to steering column manufacturers that are typically 40% lighter than an all metal solution. This weight saving assists in reducing the overall weight of a vehicle, which is an important factor in carbon emissions reduction. By integrating multiple components and functions into a single moulded part, BNL plastic bearings further reduce weight through reducing component count.

Compact

For many customers, we design bearing products that are more compact than alternative assemblies, saving space and weight when shipping and contributing to less transport mileage.

Materials

Plastics have a strong environmental profile. All polymers are lightweight, durable, low carbon and recyclable. And they are not a major drain on our natural resources. Only 4% of global oil production is used for plastics. (BPF)
